BMW M builds its one-millionth car, and Munich will build the electric M3

BMW M has built its one-millionth vehicle: an M3 in BMW Individual Fire Orange III, made at Plant Munich. BMW also confirmed that Munich will build the electric M3, the first high-performance car with BMW M Neue Klasse technology, and released photos of a camouflaged prototype. It has published no specifications.

BMW revealed the eighth-generation 3 Series on 29 September 2026. The petrol cars launch as the 255 hp 330 and 330 xDrive and the 437 hp M350 xDrive, all with 48-volt mild hybrid, alongside the electric i3 50 xDrive. US prices start at $49,900, and a plug-in hybrid follows within a year.

BMW M350 xDrive: 437 hp, and a drift mode in a car that is not an M3

BMW has confirmed the M350 xDrive, the range-topping combustion version of the next 3 Series and the successor to the M340i. It makes 326 kW (443 PS, 437 hp) from a 48-volt mild-hybrid straight-six, 580 Nm, 4.1 seconds to 100 km/h and 250 km/h. The headline is Drift Moment, which sends drive fully to the rear axle and has never appeared on an M Performance 3 Series before. It arrives during 2027 as a software upgrade rather than at launch.
