Two powertrains, and only two
Lexus revealed the 2027 NX on 1 September 2026, and the headline is subtraction. The petrol-only cars are gone. What is left is the NX 350h hybrid and the NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid, which Lexus describes as a fully electrified line-up.
Four grades carry them: Premium, Premium+, F SPORT and Luxury. The hybrid is front- or all-wheel drive on Premium and Premium+, and all-wheel drive only on F SPORT and Luxury. The plug-in is all-wheel drive throughout.
What changed underneath
The hybrid system now uses an e-Axle assembly that integrates the transaxle, the motor and the power control unit into one unit. Lexus says the packaging lowers the car's centre of gravity, and pairs it with claimed improvements to structural rigidity and driving dynamics.
The plug-in gets more of a change. Its lithium-ion battery is newly developed, with 8 per cent more output and 30 per cent more capacity than before, and Lexus quotes over 40 miles of EV range on select grades. DC fast charging is now standard on the plug-in grades, along with a powered charge port door.
Lexus states the percentage improvements but not the capacity they improve on, so there is no kWh figure to compare against anything.
Inside
The 14-inch Lexus Interface touchscreen becomes standard across every grade rather than an upgrade. Lexus Safety System+ 4.0 is standard. Sensory Concierge, which Lexus offers on the upper grades, joins the options list.
What Lexus has not said
Everything a buyer would use to compare it. There is no total system horsepower for either powertrain, no battery capacity, no 0-60 mph time, no fuel economy, no dimensions and no prices. Lexus says grade details and pricing arrive closer to the on-sale date, and that the car will be available across global markets by the end of 2026.
The figures on our NX page are therefore Lexus's own published numbers for the current car, not this one: 244 hp and 7.7 seconds for the 350h, 309 hp and 6.3 seconds for the 450h+. They will be updated when Lexus publishes the 2027 set.
