BMW has revealed the iX4, the third model of its Neue Klasse after the iX3 and the i3, and the electric successor to the X4. In September we covered reports that the next Neue Klasse car would be an electric SUV coupe called iX4. BMW has now confirmed the car and the name, and like the iX3 it is built in Debrecen, Hungary.
The range
| iX4 40 xDrive | iX4 50 xDrive | iX4 M60 xDrive | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Power | 275 kW (369 hp) | 345 kW (463 hp) | 450 kW (603 hp) |
| Torque | 520 Nm | 645 Nm | 875 Nm |
| 0-100 km/h | 5.6 s | 4.9 s | 3.9 s |
| Top speed | not published | 210 km/h | 240 km/h |
| WLTP range | up to 638 km | up to 828 km | not published |
| Launch | March 2027 | March 2027 | shortly after |
BMW lists all three as provisional figures. Every version has a motor on each axle. The 50 xDrive charges at up to 400 kW, enough for 387 km in ten minutes. BMW quotes its battery at 108.7 kWh usable, though its US release says 112.2 kWh. The M60 uses the same 603 hp, 875 Nm drive as the new iX3 M60 and adds the optional M Yellow Lights.
In the US, the iX4 launches in March 2027 as the 50 xDrive from $66,200 plus destination, with up to 428 miles of estimated range. The M60 follows later in 2027. BMW's US release does not mention the 40 xDrive.
What makes it an iX4
- The roof. A coupe roofline over the iX3's long wheelbase, and a drag coefficient of 0.23, helped by active air flaps.
- A full-length panoramic roof with climate glazing, as standard.
- The M Sport package as standard, with 20-inch M wheels. The M60 gets 21-inch wheels and red-calipered M Sport brakes.
- The Neue Klasse cabin technology: Panoramic Vision across the base of the windscreen, a 17.9-inch central screen and the "Heart of Joy" driving-dynamics computer.
It is 4,783 mm long and 1,608 mm tall on a 2,898 mm wheelbase (converted from BMW USA's inch figures). That is about the iX3's length, with a lower roof.
Our take
The petrol X4 ended in late 2025, so the iX4 takes over the badge rather than sitting next to it. With 828 km of WLTP range on the 50 xDrive, and the iX3 M60's 603 hp drive available in the M60, it is a stronger product on paper than the car it replaces. The $4,700 premium over the iX3 50 xDrive's US price is what you pay for the roofline.
We have added all three iX4 versions to our X4 page.
