Denza's N8 claims 1,003 km on a charge, and BYD is not saying from which version

A 130.15 kWh LFP pack, four quoted CLTC range figures, a 1,193 hp tri-motor option, and no published pairing between any of them.

A thousand kilometres, with an asterisk

Denza, BYD's premium brand, has put a number on the N8 that is hard to ignore: 1,003 km on a single charge. That figure is CLTC, China's own test cycle, which is considerably more generous than WLTP and much more generous than EPA. Treat it as a Chinese-market headline rather than a number you would see on a European window sticker.

The pack behind it is a 130.15 kWh LFP unit. A smaller 105.792 kWh pack is also offered. Across the range Denza quotes four CLTC figures, 800, 840, 970 and up to 1,003 km, plus 960 km for the longer N8L.

What Denza has not published is which battery and which range go with which drivetrain. Four range figures and two packs, with no stated pairing.

That matters more than it sounds. The N8 is sold with two very different powertrains, and a 1,003 km claim reads quite differently depending on whether it belongs to the entry single-motor car or the flagship. We have left the per-variant range fields empty in our data rather than guess, and put the full picture on the model page instead.

Two powertrains

The single-motor rear-drive car comes in two outputs, 320 kW and 370 kW, which is 429 hp and 497 hp.

Above it sits a tri-motor arrangement: one 270 kW motor on the front axle and two 310 kW motors on the rear, for 890 kW combined. That is roughly 1,193 hp in a three-row family SUV.

Charging uses BYD's Flash-Charging architecture, which the company has quoted at 10 to 97 per cent in as little as nine minutes.

Body and size

Two lengths. The five-seat N8 is 5,150 mm long, 1,999 mm wide and 1,820 mm tall on a 3,075 mm wheelbase. The six-seat N8L stretches to about 5.20 m. Inside, the dashboard carries a 1.1-metre panoramic display, shown publicly at the end of August.

What is missing

No 0-100 km/h time for any version, including the 1,193 hp one. No top speed. No kerb weight. For a car with tri-motor hardware that out-guns most supercars on paper, the absence of an acceleration figure is the odd gap, and we are not going to derive one.

Pricing has not been announced for the N8. Denza's existing China lineup starts at around 300,000 yuan.

There is no sign of the N8 in Denza's announced European or Australian lineups, and it does not appear on the brand's international site at all. Treat it as a China-market car until Denza says otherwise.

A note on sourcing

Denza has not published an English-language press release for the N8, and the car is absent from its international site. Everything above comes from specialist outlets reporting Chinese filings and launch material rather than from the manufacturer directly, which is a weaker footing than we prefer. One outlet has also quoted 1,008 km rather than 1,003 km; we have used the lower figure, which is the one that appears alongside the 130.15 kWh pack in more than one report. We will revise this if Denza publishes its own numbers.
