Kimera Automobili was the featured marque at the Monterey Motorsports Festival on August 15, 2026, and used it to show the K-39 Stradale and the K-39 Race Car publicly together for the first time, with founder Luca Betti presenting.

An Italian body around a Swedish engine
Kimera made its name with the Evo37, a restomod of the Lancia 037. The K-39 is the step beyond that: a clean-sheet platform rather than a rebodied original, with a carbon monocoque and an engine commissioned from Koenigsegg.
That last part is the unusual bit. Koenigsegg builds engines for Koenigsegg, and a bespoke twin-turbo V8 for a small Italian firm is a real endorsement. A thousand horsepower through a manual gearbox to the rear wheels, with no electric assistance anywhere, is a specification almost nobody else is writing in 2026.
Two Lancias, not one
The shape is usually described as an 037 tribute, and the proportions are there: the upright cabin, the long tail, the twin round headlights. But Kimera has been clear that the aero comes from a different car, the Group 5 Beta Montecarlo Turbo, which raced with far more extreme bodywork than the 037 ever wore.
Bringing in Sergio Limone and Claudio Lombardi, who worked on the originals at Lancia, is the same move Kimera made with the Evo37. It is what separates this from the general run of retro-styled specials: the people who engineered the reference cars are in the room.
