A name with unfinished business
Koenigsegg showed the CCGT1 in Monterey on August 13, 2026. The name is the point. It belongs to a car that was built, tested, and then never allowed to compete.
The original CCGT was Koenigsegg's GT1 endurance racer. Christian von Koenigsegg had been reading the Le Mans GT1 regulations since the first CC prototype, and had scaled that car's width and frontal area to fit them, so that a racing version would not need reworking later. Those dimensions became standard for the CC8S and the CCR. The racer that followed was built with Dag Bölenius to come in well under the class limit of 1,100 kg, at around 1,000 kg, which left room to place ballast wherever the balance wanted it. It ran a naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V8 designed for 600 hp, the GT1 maximum, through a magnesium sequential gearbox, with aero worth over 600 kg of downforce. Loris Bicocchi set it up and it showed genuine pace immediately.
Two months into shakedown testing, the FIA rewrote GT1 to admit only higher-volume production cars.
The programme was cancelled before the CCGT drove a single competitive lap. One was ever built.
It was sold, spent fifteen years with its first owner, and was offered at Goodwood in 2024. Its current US-based owner had it refurbished by Koenigsegg's Legend Division, and it is now cleared for the GT1 historic class, which means it will finally race the cars it was built to beat, roughly two decades late. The CCGT1 exists to mark that.
What it actually is
A CC850 underneath, and not much of one by the end. Nearly every body panel has been redesigned. Only the doors and the removable roof carry over.
The 5.0-litre twin-turbo V8 makes 1,280 hp on pump fuel and 1,600 hp on E85, with extra cooling so it can hold peak output through a track session rather than one lap. Torque is quoted at 1,000 Nm from 2,700 to 6,170 rpm, peaking at 1,500 Nm at 5,100 rpm.
The aero is where the GT1 story turns into numbers. Up to 800 kg of downforce at 250 km/h, which puts the CCGT1 between the Jesko Attack and Sadair's Spear at peak, and a new active rear wing with 30 degrees of automatic travel that moves between low-drag, air-brake and high-downforce without the driver asking. The enormous wing is a direct nod to the original.
Two ways to drive it
The gearbox is the nine-speed Light Speed Transmission, but arranged in a way no Koenigsegg has been before. The car gets a clutch pedal for take-off and a sequential shifter that uses ignition cut for clutchless upshifts, exactly as the original CCGT did. Koenigsegg calls it the Koenigsegg Sequential Shift. Mode selection sits on a console dial labelled ASMR, for Auto, Sequential, Manual and Reverse.
If that is too much theatre, the CC850's Engage Shift System six-speed gated manual is on the options list instead. Paddles and full automatic shifting work with either.
There is also a factory track package, the first Koenigsegg has ever authorised: slick tyres, a carbon roll cage, racing seats, air jacks and data logging. With it fitted, Koenigsegg says the CCGT1 is the fastest-lapping car it has built. Optional three-spoke Aircore carbon wheels are among the lightest the company has made.
What Koenigsegg has not said
No kerb weight. No dry weight. No 0-100 km/h. No top speed. The technical specification page lists the engine, the outputs, the torque curve, the dimensions, Pirelli P Zero R tyres and 408 mm front and 390 mm rear ceramic discs, and stops there.
For a car whose whole pitch is lap time, the absence of a weight figure is conspicuous. We are not going to estimate one from the CC850 and present it as fact.
Availability
Seventy cars, and every one was allocated before the public debut. If you are reading this as a buying guide, you are already too late, which has been true of every Koenigsegg tribute so far.
