Mercedes-AMG revealed the GT SUV on 17 October 2026 in Affalterbach. AMG says it is the first full-size SUV it has developed entirely in-house, "for the first time in its 59-year history". It is the second car on the electric AMG.EA architecture, after the AMG GT 4-Door Coupé, and it uses the same axial flux motors and directly cooled battery.
The three versions
| GT 53 SUV | GT 55 SUV | GT 63 SUV | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Motors | 2 synchronous motors | 3 axial flux motors | 3 axial flux motors |
| Peak power | 400 kW (544 hp) | 600 kW (816 hp) | 860 kW (1,169 hp) |
| Continuous power | 270 kW (367 hp) | 530 kW (721 hp) | 530 kW (721 hp) |
| Torque | 800 Nm | 1,860 Nm | 2,000 Nm |
| 0-100 km/h | 4.2 s | 3.1 s | 2.7 s |
| 0-100 km/h (1-foot rollout) | 3.8 s | 2.8 s | 2.5 s |
| 0-200 km/h | 14.6 s | 9.9 s | 7.2 s |
| Top speed | 250 km/h | 270 km/h | 270 km/h |
| Battery (net) | 106 kWh | 106 or 128 kWh | 106 or 128 kWh |
| WLTP range | 597-668 km | up to 700 km | up to 700 km |
| Kerb weight (DIN) | 2,525-2,635 kg | 2,605-2,715 kg | 2,585-2,695 kg |
Top speeds are with the Driver's Package. All three have AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive. The GT 53's front motor works as a booster that disconnects under light loads, and its rear motor has a two-speed gearbox.
Charging: up to 710 kW
The battery runs at 800 volts with directly cooled cylindrical cells, a design AMG says is inspired by Formula 1. With the 128 kWh battery, the GT SUV charges at up to 710 kW and adds up to 450 km of WLTP range in 10 minutes. The 106 kWh battery charges at up to 600 kW. AMG quotes 10-80% in 11 or 12 minutes depending on the battery, and it can also charge at 400-volt stations.
Built to drive like a GT
- AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL+: new air suspension with hydraulic pitch and roll control instead of anti-roll bars. Standard on the GT 63, optional on the GT 55.
- Rear-axle steering of up to 6 degrees, standard.
- AMG RACE ENGINEER: three rotary controls on the console for response, cornering and slip (GT 55 and GT 63).
- AMGFORCE Sport+: recorded V8 sound for the GT 55 and GT 63, a six-cylinder for the GT 53, plus simulated gear changes and seat shakers.
- Carbon-ceramic brakes standard on the GT 63, optional on the GT 55.
- AEROKINETICS: active front slats, and a roof spoiler that deploys from 150 km/h.
It is 5,084 mm long, 2,001 mm wide and 1,656 mm tall on a 3,040 mm wheelbase, with a 607-litre boot (1,740 litres with the rear seats folded) and a 78-litre frunk. The drag coefficient is 0.27 (0.28 for the GT 53).
Price and timing
The GT 53 SUV is available to order from 20 October 2026, from €113,050 in Germany including VAT. The GT 55 and GT 63 follow in spring 2027. AMG has not published other markets' prices yet.
Our take
The headline figures are the GT 63's 1,169 hp and 2,000 Nm, and charging at up to 710 kW. The more telling detail is the continuous output: AMG is promising power you can keep using, not just a launch-control party trick. The GT 53, at €113,050, is the version most buyers will see first.
