The Polestar 4 SUV goes on sale, and this one has a rear window

An addition, not a replacement

Orders for the Polestar 4 SUV opened on 2 September 2026, the date Polestar set when it announced the car back on 7 July. It sits alongside the Polestar 4 coupé rather than taking its place, which now gives the nameplate two bodies.

The coupé is the car that famously has no rear window at all, with a roof-mounted camera feeding the mirror instead. The SUV is the version for people who found that a step too far, and Polestar's own framing is practical rather than philosophical: more flexibility, more versatile storage, the same design and performance credentials.

The numbers Polestar published

Both cars keep the 400 V architecture. Polestar quotes up to 630 km on the WLTP cycle for rear-motor variants and up to 544 hp for dual-motor variants. Chassis components have been retuned on the SUV and on the latest coupé together, which Polestar says strengthens the sporting side of how both drive.

Note the word "up to" on both figures. The 630 km and the 544 hp belong to different cars: you pick range or power, not both.

It is manufactured in Busan, South Korea, and will be available to order in a majority of Polestar markets.

What Polestar has not said

Battery capacity, 0-100 km/h, charging rates, boot volume and prices are all absent from the announcement, two months after it was made and on the day the car went on sale.

Where it sits

Polestar now lists five models: the 2, the 3, the 4 coupé, the 4 SUV and the 5. A Polestar 2 successor is due in 2027, the Polestar 7 compact SUV in 2028, and the Polestar 6 roadster is still described as planned.
