The point of it is the rulebook it ignores
Ferrari revealed the 296 GT Modificata on 13 September 2026, presented during Ferrari Racing Days in Budapest. It is a two-seater, built in what Maranello will only call extremely limited numbers, and it is not for sale to race.
That is the whole idea. The car exists for the non-competitive events of the Club Competizioni GT programme, which means it never has to pass a Balance of Performance check. The 296 GT3 Evo it derives from spends its life being slowed down to keep the racing close. This one does not.

The turbochargers share their exterior housing geometry with the GT3 Evo's, but the internals were designed for this application, drawing on work done for the 499P Modificata, the sports prototype Ferrari built for the same kind of customer. The fuel system was reworked for the higher flow rate.
The aero is where the money went
Two areas were redesigned. At the front, a new wing Ferrari's engineers call the Slotted Splitter, with a specific bonnet to match, which improves how air is managed along the underbody and lifts overall downforce.
At the rear, an entirely new wing architecture: a new centre pylon, a 5 mm Gurney flap, and endplates taken from the 499P that do a structural job as well as tidying up the vortices coming off a wing that is now working considerably harder.
It is also a much bigger object than the road car. At 5,033 mm the GT Modificata is 468 mm longer than a 296 GTB and 105 mm lower, on a wheelbase stretched 60 mm, which is the aero talking rather than the cabin.
The brake cooling ducts were redesigned for airflow efficiency, and the car keeps an ABS system, calibrated, in Ferrari's words, to make the performance accessible to drivers of all skill levels. That last part is worth reading twice on a car with 730 cv and no championship to enter.
What you can order on it
Data Acquisition System Step 1 and 2, which adds pitot tubes for air speed, damper potentiometers and brake temperature sensors. VideoBox Premium, which films the driver so a coach has something to work with. A rear camera, a rear radar that warns of faster cars closing from behind, and a livery in any colour the Ferrari Design Studio offers.
Where you would actually drive it
The 2027 Club Competizioni GT calendar runs to seven events: Jerez de la Frontera, Misano Adriatico, Fuji, Indianapolis, Paul Ricard, Spa-Francorchamps, and the closing round at the Finali Mondiali.
Ferrari has not published a price or a production number, and gives no 0-100 or top speed. The last two are a genuine absence rather than an oversight: the technical specification covers engine, gearbox, electronics, weights, tyres and brakes and quotes neither, which is what you would expect of a car with no homologation to satisfy.
The take
Ferrari has been building this category for years now, from the FXX cars through the 499P Modificata, and the 296 GT Modificata is the clearest statement of what it is for. A GT3 car is an engineering exercise in being fast within a limit. Take the limit away and you get 130 cv and three seconds a lap, which tells you roughly what Balance of Performance has been costing the racing version all along.
